Stay safe when renting a vehicle to earn

Last updated 2 October 2026

Mobistride helps drivers connect with vehicle owners offering vehicles suitable for e-hailing and delivery work. Before you pay money, share information, or take possession of a vehicle, take the time to verify who you are dealing with and understand the rental agreement.

Your safety, money and e-hailing account should always be protected.

Never share your e-hailing login details

Your e-hailing account belongs to you.

Never give a vehicle owner, agent or another person:

  • Your password
  • OTP or verification code
  • PIN
  • Recovery code
  • Account login
  • Email or phone verification code
  • Remote access to your phone or account

A vehicle owner does not need your e-hailing password or OTP to rent you a vehicle.

Be extremely cautious if someone tells you:

“I need your login to upload you to the vehicle.”

“Send me the OTP so I can verify your driver account.”

“I need access to your account to register the car.”

These are serious warning signs. Stop the transaction and report the person to Mobistride.

Verify the vehicle before paying

Do not rely only on photographs, WhatsApp messages or an attractive rental price.

Before making a payment where possible:

  • Meet the vehicle owner or authorised representative.
  • Inspect the vehicle yourself.
  • Confirm that the vehicle matches the advertisement.
  • Check the vehicle registration and relevant documentation.
  • Confirm who actually owns or controls the vehicle.
  • Ask what the rental payment covers.
  • Confirm the deposit, rental period and payment dates.
  • Make sure the agreement is clear before handing over money.

Never allow pressure or urgency to make the decision for you.

Be careful with deposits and upfront payments

Scammers may advertise a vehicle at an unusually attractive price and then request:

  • A booking deposit
  • An activation fee
  • An administration fee
  • A “registration” payment
  • A first-week rental before seeing the vehicle
  • A payment to reserve the vehicle

Do not assume a payment is legitimate simply because the person has a vehicle advertisement or a convincing profile.

Verify the person, vehicle and rental arrangement before transferring money.

Never trust a payment screenshot

If someone sends you a screenshot claiming that money has been transferred to you, do not treat the screenshot as confirmation.

Check your own bank account or payment provider.

A screenshot can be edited or manipulated.

Make sure the agreement is clear

Before taking the vehicle, understand:

  • Rental amount
  • Payment frequency
  • Deposit requirements
  • Rental period
  • Late-payment terms
  • Maintenance responsibilities
  • Insurance responsibilities
  • Who pays for fuel
  • Accident procedures
  • Traffic fines and other penalties
  • What happens if the vehicle becomes unavailable
  • Conditions for ending the rental

If something is unclear, ask before signing or paying.

Protect your personal information

Only provide information that is reasonably necessary for the rental process.

Be cautious when someone asks for unnecessary:

  • Banking information
  • Passwords
  • Security codes
  • Account credentials
  • Copies of unrelated documents
  • Access to your phone or email

Never send sensitive account credentials through WhatsApp or any other messaging service.

Watch for these red flags

Be cautious if someone:

  • Pressures you to pay immediately.
  • Refuses to let you inspect the vehicle.
  • Offers a deal that seems unusually cheap.
  • Asks for your e-hailing password or OTP.
  • Wants payment before answering basic questions.
  • Changes the agreed price at the last minute.
  • Uses different names or payment accounts.
  • Refuses to provide reasonable vehicle information.
  • Becomes aggressive when you ask for verification.
  • Tells you not to involve Mobistride in the transaction.

If something doesn't feel right

Stop.

Do not send additional money or information.

Keep records of:

  • Messages
  • Phone numbers
  • Payment confirmations
  • Advertisements
  • Documents provided
  • Vehicle details
  • Names and account information

Report suspicious activity to Mobistride and, where appropriate, the relevant authorities.

Your e-hailing account is your responsibility

Mobistride provides a platform for connecting drivers and vehicle owners. We cannot guarantee the conduct of every person you may interact with.

Use your own judgment, verify important information and never surrender control of your e-hailing account.

If someone asks for your password or OTP, do not provide it.
